PNS serves as a relay between the brain and spinal cord and the rest of the body.
The main function of the PNS is to connect the CNS to the limbs and organs.
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) is divided into autonomic and somatic
Somatic nervous system is voluntary controlling skeletal muscles
Autonomic nervous system (ANS) acts on smooth muscles and glands
The ANS is involuntary and maintains homeostasis
Peripheral nervous system (PNS) belongs to the Autonomic Nervous System. PNS has afferent and efferent
Afferent = sensory
Efferent = motor
Afferent sends impulses to CNS
Efferent neurons receive impulses from brain and transmit through spinal cord
Sympathetic is "fight or flight" and Parasympathetic is "rest and digest"
Sympathetic and Parasympathetic are opposites for homeostasis
